Flour tortillas can be made easily and inexpensively by hand. They require few ingredients and contain no preservatives like the pre-packaged varieties. I got the original recipe from mykoreankitchen.com.
Recipe for 4 tortillas:
2 cups flour, plus more for dusting
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp salt
2 tsp olive oil
3/4 cup warm water
Sift flour, cornstarch and salt together in a bowl. Add olive oil and water. *(You may want to start with a 1/2 cup of water and add more as needed to form the dough). Kneed the dough until elastic, 5-10 minutes. Divide the dough into 4 pieces. Sprinkle the counter with flour, roll each ball of dough to lightly cover in flour. Sprinkle more flour as needed and roll out one ball of dough at a time with a rolling pin (or an empty wine bottle) into a thin round shape. Repeat with other balls of dough. Use a piece of parchment paper or foil between each tortilla when stacking them to prevent them from sticking together. Heat a dry skillet. Add one tortilla and cook for 20-30 seconds on one side, flip and cook for 20-30 seconds on the other side. Repeat with other tortillas. Cover with foil to keep warm.
You can use these to fulfill a Mexican craving, as a sandwich wrap, as a pizza base, etc.
